One of the most commonly used arguments among the more ignorant of medical marijuana detractors is that anything that is smoked cannot be benign. Aside from the fact that this ignores the wide variety of cannabis-infused foods available today, it is hard to deny that smoking raw plant material has some downsides. It is also true that for many patients, especially those dealing with conditions like cancer or AIDS, have a hard time keeping any food down, which makes inhalation an excellent method of medicine delivery. This is where vaporizers offer a great alternative for those patients unhappy with or unable to use other methods of ingestion.
“By not combusting plant matter you avoid the tar and carcinogens from smoking,” says VaporStore.com owner Aje. “Vaporizing only heats the material at lower temps to release the active ingredients without burning it. This saves your throat and lungs from much discomfort and potentially toxic smoke.” Indeed, multiple studies have determined that vaporization safe and effective. A 2007 vaporizer study at the University of California, San Francisco specifically looked at cannabis vaporization with the popular Volcano vaporizer. The researchers found that “vaporization of marijuana does not result in exposure to combustion gases, and therefore is expected to be much safer than smoking marijuana cigarettes. The vaporizer was well tolerated and preferred by most subjects.”
Vaporizers have also been growing in popularity as new technologies are developed and more people exposed to better and better devices. Healthier inhalation is not the only benefits either, vaporization results in a drastic reduction in potentially bothersome odors and allows greater conservation of plant material. “It’s like getting a more fuel efficient car that goes 100 miles per gallon instead of 30 or less,” Aje says. Given the ever-growing number of vaporizers available in the market, we decided to ask him for some advice for those looking into buying one.
420petition: What should one look for when buying a vaporizer?
Aje: Most important is to get a convection based model such as our VaporTower, meaning there is a hot air flow through the material versus other conduction models where material is in contact with a hot surface, this does not work nearly as efficiently as convention. Warranty is a big factor, we believe the VaporTower should only be a 1 time investment so we offer the first Lifetime warranty in the industry and stand behind our product! There are many low cost disposable models out on the market, they may work for a while but usually the cost of replacing adds up.
420petition: What are the newest and coolest vaporizers available today? What’s coming in the near future?
Aje: We just got in the new Arizer Solo Rechargeable Battery Powered Electric Handheld Vaporizer! It’s one of the better performing portable vapes we have found. There are a few others we know that are working on some cool electric portable vapes, we’ve reviewed some cool prototypes and are excited about the future of this industry!
420petition: What would you tell to those who are on the fence about Vaporizers?
Aje: If you haven’t tried vaping yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. Try it for a week exclusively, then try going back to burning and smoking. Your body and lungs will be shocked, it will hurt more again due to your healed sensitivity. It’s similar to brushing manually and using a Sonicare toothbrush, once you get used to it for a week, you can never go back and feel as satisfied.
