Anti-cannabis folks like to hide behind “the children” when discussing legalization of medical cannabis, and scream even louder about recreational toking. I would like to take a look at the reality of that argument, and without comparing it to alcohol (which is an argument I don’t like). This article http://bit.ly/mc2q2y talks about the cost, in children’s lives, of this failed War on Drugs in Mexico. This is disturbing and I am sickened, especially since I am convinced that the guns doing the killing are coming from the USA http://bit.ly/lMwFIg . That isn’t what I want to talk about here, although it is a topic that needs to be covered. This article really got me motivated though to look at the child casualties right here in the USA.
We have conservatives screaming that legalizing cannabis would destroy our future, our children. They are afraid that children will all suddenly want to start shooting up heroin or turning tricks in an alley for crack if control of cannabis access was taken away from street level dealers. I could have some sympathy for this as just being slightly misguided if it wasn’t for one very ugly fact that contradicts that argument. The Pharmafia-it’s deadly drugs and the children dying from them.
Some anti-cannabis people have spoken out to criticize Mieko Hester Perez http://www.facebook.com/UF4Autism , co-founder of The Unconventional Foundation For Autism http://uf4a.org/ for using cannabis to literally save her son’s life. Pharmafia’s drugs were not helping him, maybe even were harming him. He was wasting away and cannabis has him eating and making amazing progress. He is down to just 2 or 3, from 13 types of pills to control his symptoms. http://abcn.ws/lxYV8R These same groups of people are all in favor of feeding handfuls of deadly pharmaceuticals to children though. http://bit.ly/ksDxyh According to Citizen’s Commission on Human Rights America’s children are being misdiagnosed and drugged at an alarming rate. Also according to cchr.org over 42,000 people die each year from psychiatric drugs. I couldn’t find a breakdown of how many of them are children but if you watch Dead Wrong: How Psychiatric Drugs Can Kill Your Child http://bit.ly/j70C3E (free streaming online) you will see that there are too many kids in that awful number. Why isn’t anyone speaking out about these dangerous drugs and their impact on our children?? In at least nine of the last thirteen incidence of school violence the perpetrator was either on, or withdrawing from, psychiatric drugs. The other four have sealed medical records so we will never know if they had these horrible chemicals in their systems. The Virginia Tech shooter’s records were among the ones sealed but antidepressant drugs were found among his things. Seung-Hui Cho, killed 32 people and wounded 17 other people; six more were injured when they jumped from second-story windows to escape http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Tech_massacre . Under ”Protecting Children’s Rights” http://bit.ly/knnvKY it talks about how this organization has brought this information out. I am amazed that the same people who are hiding behind “children’s safety” to keep cannabis illegal are the same ones pushing for this phony “Teen Screening” http://bit.ly/kjjdmn , with an 84% chance of misdiagnosis, to drug more and more kids every day . Cannabis is actual medicine, it is the safest substance on earth and yet these parents and lawmakers completely ignore the facts. Pharmafia kills. 42,000 die each year and 63,000 people have committed suicide on these drugs that we know of, some as young as 5!! http://bit.ly/lOBmBX When is this War on Drugs going to go after the real culprits, the ones that really are killing our children? I am outraged that a mother trying to protect her child from these deadly drugs is treated like a criminal in Michigan, her child is snatched from her by thugs armed with assault rifles and even a TANK http://bit.ly/ma2YlF . She was jailed and her child locked away in a psych ward where she was allegedly sexually assaulted. Mother’s like this and Mieko are scorned, criticized, bullied and punished for standing up for their children when they see that the Pharmafia drugs are actually doing more harm than good.
Too many other parents are giving their children these drugs because they believe the doctor actually has their best interest at heart. We go to the doctor for their advice, they are the “experts” and so we follow their advice. As adults many of us don’t always follow through or can’t afford the medicine so we skip it and pray. We don’t do that with our kids. We beg, borrow, or steal to get the drugs and make them take every last dose. We follow the doctor’s advice to the letter because we love our children and want them to be as healthy as possible. All the while not realizing that the doctor isn’t really interested in whether these drugs work or how dangerous they are. All that matters to them is the fat bonus they are going to get from the Pharmafia for his/her busy prescription pad. When the child is having behavior problems and the parent is stretched to their limit with patience and sanity they cling even harder to the “miracle pill” and it’s “miracle cure”. When the behavior gets worse, pile on more drugs creating more problems.
The absolute worst drug for children, in my opinion, is Ritalin (methylphenid). Speed is being handed out to our children like candy. Not only that, there are schools who convince reluctant parents by threatening to kick the kid completely out of school if they are not drugged everyday. I personally went through this myself when my kids were younger. I was unaware of my rights, so out of fear of being labeled a horrible parent and of my child being actually kicked out I was feeding my kid speed every morning before school. Now imagine these kids as they reach High School and want to start experimenting with street drugs and alcohol. What happens when you are tweaking on Ritalin and you do a shot of street meth? I can only imagine. Or add alcohol to that mix? That is scary. Not to mention them selling them to their friends. When I was addicted to meth I was violently angry. And we wonder why kids are angry and violent.
When the children turn to cannabis, or their parents want to use it, society reacts in violent opposition. They pressure us to feed our children these harmful, deadly drugs and refuse to allow us to chose a more natural treatment. This country needs to get it’s priorities straight, in a lot of ways, but this War on Drugs is insane. It needs to be refocused on the drugs that are really killing our children and leave cannabis medicine alone….
