In the wake of a DOJ memo that apparently pledges to continue prosecuting large scale grow operations and dispensaries in states where they are operating in compliance with state laws, medical marijuana advocates are reeling. This memo, which was supposed to “clarify” the Ogden memo (remember that one that instructed federal prosecutors to leave legal medical marijuana patients alone?), instead just backtracked on the administration’s stance.
Not only is the Obama administration backtracking on the Odgen memo, but Obama is breaking promises he made during his presidential campaign that ironically touted change:
“What I’m not going to be doing is using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state [medical marijuana] laws.”
Barack Obama, Oregon Mail Tribune, March 22, 2008
Pro-marijuana folks would be shocked to hear that the Obama DOJ is raiding marijuana dispensaries at twice the rate the Bush DOJ did. But it’s true. That’s why the good people over at Stopthedrugwar.com are asking for American citizens to write to our President demanding that he keep his promise. Here’s what StoptheDrugWar posted on their website:
“In March 2008, candidate Obama promised not to use Dept. of Justice resources to block state medical marijuana laws. But President Obama has broken that promise:
Please write to President Obama to express your concern and disappointment over his broken promise. The future of medical marijuana depends on people like you across the country speaking up and putting pressure on the president to keep his promise to respect state medical marijuana laws — so please use our web site to send President Obama a letter today. When you’re done, please use our tell-a-friend form to spread the word. You can call the White House Comment Line on the phone too, at (202) 456-1111, to make an even greater impact.”
With the presidential election on everyone’s minds, the time is definitely right for Obama to make things right. Either that or he’ll just pave the way for pro-medical pot Republicans to win the ticket. Let’s put the pressure on and keep medical marijuana patients safe from federal prosecution and raids.

So my question to you Sir is if we cannot count on you to follow through with what you say then what makes you different from the GOP contenders? I am a medical cannabis user. I obey all the state laws pertaining to it’s use etc. So why am I in danger? Must I use a dark alley? Please reconsider your hostile approach and sit down to actually talk to a patient. I for one am more than willing.
This has got to stop its a proven medicine with so many less side effects then the paid and bought meds via the FDA, and most of these so called legal and allowed meds, cause serious side effects, could you please explain the logic in me taking a med that is gonna hurt me as oppose to using a med that will make me feel better and need less meds, oh wait is that it you all don’t get to share in the big pharmaceutical companies windfall? It is becoming very transparent that the big corps make the laws in our country to benefit themselves, you the Govt are to be mediators between business and the people, not in bed with the corps
Please legalize it. We need to move on to more important issues!
Thank-you
why cant you keep your word? back in the old days a mans word was golden thats all it took. be a man keep your word!!
In yesterdays Broadcast you were looking for fund’s for the Federal deficit. Why not Give this one to those congressman, we already have funds from the oil company’s to help So my thought is, 80% of the people in the united states smoke Marijuana and if it were legalized, and taxed, The government would be like, What? federal deficit? Seriously Our money made by us spent not in Tijuana or some third world country that we have it shipped from. But stay right here in the U.S where that money should Be. We work, we Pay our taxes and we vote,We would like the respect every other tax payer Get’s. Instead of being viewed as criminals. Thanks for your time. Me.

Dear President Obama,
Please be the change our county desperatly needs. I voted for you because I believed you would bring change & improve our county. I’m sad that big corporations runs our country at the expense of hard working Americans. Not only did you turn out to be just another one of them you have failed to keep your promise to leave medical cannabis state law patients & providers alone! Why? Big corporations & drug catels paying you off? Your duty is to protect the people yet you have chosen to cause more harm. I’m truly disappointed. You are smart enough to know that regulation is best & would save our country! Also freeing industrial hemp would completly change our country around! Please be the change you promised to be!
Thank you,
Desa Loughman
Dr. Mr. President, Please stand up for the ‘little guys’ who voted you into office. Remember we were the ones in the door to door campaign that thought you were this generations Jack Kennedy. Think what Ted would tell you to do if he was still alive. Although he is probably rolling in his grave right now. Follow through with this. Don’t let them win. They get enough and they need to pay. Don’t hurt the little guys anymore. Please I beg of you to remember us.
Thank You,
Robin Blaisdell
Mr President. I am a Eagle Scout with Chronic Back Pain. Do you want me to get addicted to Morphine again so I can destroye my Liver and be Constipated all the time. I do not want to buy my Medicine on the street and risk getting arrested. Marijauna is the only thing that keeps me working and my pain in check. Just Legealize it. We are Adults.

Mr. President, as a long term cancer survivor, now dealing with radiation poisoning; your promise made to us at election time, I truly believed in. I know both your own mother and grandmother died from just one of the types of cancer I also dealt with. Mr Obama, I am not a drug addict, and so easily could have gone in that direction with as much as I have been through. In October, I again will be on the surgery table, this time a reversal surgery as my organs are dying off due to the very radiation the hospital gave me, how ironic. I do not use any drugs, though forced to pay into big pharmas hands for thousands. I have no patience for drunks nor do I permit cigarette smoke around me or mine, cancer is a terrible, frightening disease. Please, disregard those who would snarl due to their frustration and give us the compassion of what you already know; this herb, works. It is not a drug. It does not addict, nor create a violent person. I ask you, for compassion. Thank you for your time.
I think the GOP is to blame not Obama. After the 2010 election where they took control of the House and took a majority in a lot of state legislatures, all of a sudden Med MJ is attacked, I think it is a Republican ploy to secure their promise to make President Obama a one term President. The Republicans in our state legislature are the ones that all but killed it here in Mt. I blame them!!! Med MJ patients should have stood up then when it first started. The GOP has not only gone after that but also workers rights, education, and anything else where they could kill a job and put businesses out of business. Think about it. Their main objective to make President Obama a one term president at all cost, and it is costing us alot. people said the Dems had control of both house and Senate but they did not in the Senate. They were three votes short of majority of 60 votes so GOP blocked everything.
Do any of the republicans running for president support marijuana legalization other than Ron Paul?
Isn’t it kind of strange that after the GOP had a run on the 2010 election and took a majority in the House, along with a majority in state legislatures that the Fed starts coming down on Med MJ. Is this another ploy to make President Obama a one term president, as the GOP promised their constituents? What a coincidence. In my state the GOP is to blame for all but closing it down and making it impossible. I am not falling for their tricks.
